Yes. Additionally, VGADVI Broadcaster allows you choose if the HD and SD channels will be broadcast and recorded as one stream or two independent streams.

VGADVI Broadcaster performs on-board compression such that a 100 Mbps network connection should provide enough capacity for effective transmission of video streams transmitted. The Ethernet connector is also the source of power for VGADVI Broadcaster. If your network does not provide Power over Ethernet (PoE – spec: IEEE 802.3af class 0 ), you will need to use an Power over Ethernet injector as provided with your device.

VGADVI Broadcaster can capture at rates up to 30 fps. The actual capture rate of the VGADVI Recorder depends on the original source resolution and configured settings such as the codec, frame size, bitrate and quality vs. speed setting. Refer to the device’s documentation for guidelines and examples to achieve the ideal frame rate for your applications.

By default, VGADVI Broadcaster preserves the original resolution of the images captured by setting the output frame size to match the resolution of the source. VGADVI Broadcaster can also perform real time scaling of the incoming source resolution and render to the frame size chosen in the stream setup configuration menus. Configuring the frame size for the HD channel and SD channel allows you to create different visual layouts during streaming and recording.

VGADVI Broadcaster does not need to be connected to a LAN or the Internet. VGADVI Broadcaster can function as a stand-alone device or directly connected to the Ethernet port of a computer. In the case of stand alone modes, VGADVI Broadcaster will require use of a Power over Ethernet injector in order to provide power to the device. Please consult the product documentation for instructions on how to configure the device for stand alone modes. However, if connected to a LAN or the Internet, the VGADVI Broadcaster can automatically archive the recordings it makes to an FTP server. As well, a connection to a LAN or the Internet allows the user to remotely manage and access the recordings that VGADVI Broadcaster makes.

VGADVI Broadcaster analyzes the source signals to automatically determine the incoming source resolution. You can change this in the web admin interface if needed. If VGADVI Broadcaster does not support the resolution you provide, Please contact us. We are always looking for ways to improve our products to add support for this mode.

Configuration is performed through an intuitive web interface. Advanced users may also use HTTP API commands.

VGADVI Broadcaster is compatible with many different video compression formats and codecs. The compression to be used for recording can be set by the user. Consult the Stream Setup menu or the product documentation for the most recent list of codecs supported by VGADVI Broadcaster.

Yes. VGADVI Recorder can stream to browsers on Apple devices using the MJPEG codec. Additionally third party media player applications running on an iPad, iPod, or iPhone support other codecs such as H.264 and MPEG4.

The VGADVI Broadcaster product documentation provides an expanded trouble shooting guide to help ensure your system is setup correctly. Some things to check quickly in the following order:

2 Ensure sure the lights on the Ethernet port are flashing. Note that flashing lights confirm Ethernet is working, but you also need to make sure TCP/IP configuration is working ( see below ) Ethernet connection is working  
3 Connect a VGA/DVI monitor to the DVI out port to make sure the incoming display port and associated cables are working properly HD Source is working, HD Source cables are working  
4 Connect your camera output into a matching S-video/Composite input on a TV input to verify the camera is working. Ensures analog video cables and analog camera is setup to provide video out (some cameras are tricky)  
5 Connect a headset to the audio output on the VGADVI Broadcaster. Confirms analog audio source and cables into device are working  
6 Run the Epiphan Network Discovery tool or the EpiphanTouch application to find the IP Address of the VGADVI Broadcaster ( Lecture Broadcaster is up and running and connected to the IP network ) If you cannot connect over the IP network, you will not be able to administer the device. You can try a direct connection in order to confirm the VGADVI Broadcaster is working and therefore isolating a network issue Confirm Ethernet and TCP/IP configuration is correct.  
7 Confirm the capture frame size is the same or lower than the resolution of the source Ensures the output fits into the output frame  
8 Choose to Configure the system as a single stream output or independent streams. This choice will determine the frame sizes you want to choose in order to have the best user experience. For example with independent streams, floating windows can be resized/moved by the end-user, whereas both streams to the same window, the user will not be bale to resize/move the windows  
9 Click the Live View button to confirm the device is streaming. Confirm the inputs are captured and streamed Confirm browsers, and media players can view the stream Confirm picture with picture layout before making adjustments and customizations  
10 If your browser is not viewing the stream, try viewing one of the test streams available on the Epiphan website demo systems. Isolate any media player or browser issues  
11 Consult the product documentation for more trouble shooting advice This checklist goes through most issues, the product documentation covers other areas.  
12 Contact your Epiphan Channel Partner that sold you the device or Epiphan Support Product feedback is appreciated  

VGADVI Broadcaster supports a number streaming protocols (HTTP, RTP, RTMP, RTSP, UDP or HTTP) that provide different scalability and underlying network configuration trade offs. HTTP streaming architectures are the simplest, but don’t offer the level of scalability of multicast and content distribution network architectures. Consult the product documentation for further information.

VGADVI Broadcaster provides multiple mechanisms to brand your streams and recordings. The stream setup menus provide a mechanism to apply timestamp, text such as event name, copyright, time, date, etc. Additionally you can customize with a logo, upload a custom no-signal image, or select the background matte color used in picture in picture modes.

Firmware

Automatic firmware updates are available through the product administration interface when connected to the Internet. Once the product registration is complete, email notifications will also be sent to inform customers about new firmware updates.
