Recording VGA or DVI signal using Windows Media Encoder

Even though the VGA2USB/DVI2USB series of devices come with a native program that is able to record the captured output as video, all video capture software that is compatible with external USB cameras can capture from the VGA2USB/DVI2USB as these devices are recognized by Windows as high-resolution video cameras. This tutorial will walk through the recording process using WM Encoder 9 Series.

Step 1: Connect VGA2USB/DVI2USB device and start Windows Media Encoder.

You should see the following screen:

Select “Capture audio or video” and press “OK”.

Step 2: Configure VGA2USB/DVI2USB for use with WM Encoder.

From the “Video” drop-down list, select the VGA2USB or DVI2USB device. If the VGA2USB or DVI2USB does not appear in the list, check your USB connection and make sure thatthe latest drivers are installed properly. Select “Next”.

Select a file name for the recording. You may “Browse” for a location to save to. Press “Next”.

If you would like to create video for portable devices or future web streaming, you may select that option. To preserve the original quality, select “Web server (progressive download)” and press “Next”.

Select “Full screen video (CBR),” choose the desired bit rate, and press “Next”

You may edit the recordings title and author. Press “Next”

In this screen, select “Begin capturing when I click Finish” checkmark and press “Finish”.

Step 3: Record the desired output.

You are now recording the VGA2USB or DVI2USB stream through Windows Media Encoder! Press “Stop” when you are finished recording. Your recording will be saved in the location that you specified at the beginning of step 2.

Hint: Quality of video not sufficient.

If your video quality from the WM Encoder is not sufficient, try stopping your recording and going into the “Properties” button found at the top of the window. From there, go into the “Processing” tab and select “YUY2” from the “Pixel format” drop-down list.
