New firmware update: Control system updates, REST API, USB Button & LED light support and easy file sharing

February 13, 2025

Available in March of 2025, firmware 4.24.1 will bring the following new features to Pearl systems:

Room control system updates

New Q-SYS Control Plugin: streamlined management for CMS events

We’ve enhanced the Epiphan Pearl Q-SYS plugin to offer users a seamless experience with direct integration into CMS platforms like Panopto and Kaltura. With this update, you can design your User Control Interface (UCI) the way you want it by simply dragging and dropping CMS controls for your specific platform.

This plugin makes your Q-SYS experience even more intuitive, allowing you to manage and monitor CMS events directly from Pearl. Whether you’re initiating, pausing, resuming, stopping, extending, or tracking the progress of your CMS events, everything is streamlined for maximum efficiency.

Crestron integration updates: More secure & streamlined control

Our latest Pearl firmware update includes improved integration with Crestron systems. New support for HTTPS commands ensures a more secure connection, while updated file and channel naming rules help streamline recorded file organization.

You can now also control CMS events like Panopto and Kaltura directly from your Crestron panel, including audio/video previews, event status, and event controls.

Expanded REST API: Easy integration with copy/paste commands

Integrating Epiphan Pearl into your workflow just got easier. Our expanded REST API now features a developer-access mode, allowing users to copy and paste API commands for faster and more efficient system integration. This update is designed for system integrators, AV professionals, and enterprise teams, streamlining automation and customization like never before.

What is a REST API?

A REST API (Representational State Transfer Application Programming Interface) allows software applications and hardware systems to communicate over the internet using standard HTTP requests. Developers use APIs to automate workflows, integrate systems, and enhance the functionality of devices like Pearl Nano, Pearl Mini, Pearl-2, and Pearl Nexus.

For AV professionals and IT teams, an API means seamless control over streaming, recording, event scheduling, and monitoring — without relying on manual input or third-party interfaces.

Why use the Epiphan Pearl API?

By leveraging the Pearl REST API, organizations can:

  • Automate CMS workflows – Integrate Panopto, Kaltura, or YuJa seamlessly into existing video production pipelines.
  • Customize event control – Create custom scripts for starting, stopping, pausing, or extending live streams and recordings.
  • Simplify device management – Monitor and control multiple Pearl devices from a centralized dashboard.
  • Improve efficiency – Eliminate repetitive tasks with one-click automation using simple API commands.

New features in the expanded API

With developer-access mode, Pearl’s API now offers:

  • Copy/Paste API Commands – Quickly generate API calls for integration into custom software solutions.
  • Faster Deployment – Save time by eliminating the need to manually script API requests.
  • Enhanced Customization – Design automation workflows for lecture capture, corporate AV, and live event production.

The expanded API is a game-changer for:

  • Higher education IT teams automating lecture capture and scheduling across multiple classrooms.
  • Enterprise video production teams integrating Pearl into corporate AV and meeting room solutions.
  • Broadcast professionals customizing Pearl workflows for live streaming and content management.
  • AV integrators who need fast and efficient ways to incorporate Pearl into existing AV control systems.

USB button & status light support

Pearl devices now support expanded Delcom USB button functionality, including compatibility with certain bundled LED/Buttons. This allows you to start, stop, and manage events with ease, as well as control pause, resume, and event confirmation actions.

Additionally, customizable LED states for specific Delcom and Kuando USB status lights help operators easily monitor device statuses such as CMS events and errors.

Easy file sharing with Epiphan Edge

Epiphan Edge now allows you to automatically upload and share files with clients at the click of a button. The new file-sharing functionality simplifies file management and improves your workflow, making it easier than ever to share content securely and efficiently.

Firmware 4.24.1 will be available as a free update for all Pearl Nexus, Pearl Mini, Pearl Nano, and Pearl-2 systems. To install, download to your device with a free Epiphan Edge™ account which gives you cloud control of your devices, or update with the local web UI on your device.
