New! Dual Ethernet on Pearl for enhanced network performance

September 11, 2024

The new dual network setup on Epiphan Pearl devices allows users to split their network traffic between two separate Ethernet connections. With firmware 4.24, scheduled for release later this fall, Pearl will support a second network connection over USB, with a USB to Ethernet adapter.

This feature enables one connection to be dedicated to video streaming while the other handles control data, such as device management, remote access, or configuration.

Enhanced network performance

By separating video streaming from control traffic, users can optimize bandwidth usage and reduce the risk of network congestion, leading to smoother video streams and more responsive control operations.

Increased security

Segregating traffic can enhance security by isolating sensitive control data from the public-facing video stream, reducing the risk of unauthorized access or cyber threats.

Other features of this release

  • Automatic File Upload now integrates directly with Epiphan Edge™ allowing for the seamless upload of recorded files to the cloud ensuring files are backed up automatically, providing users with peace of mind.
  • An optional setting has been introduced that requires confirmation for scheduled Panopto and Opencast events. If this setting is activated and the event is not confirmed, it will not commence as planned.
  • Resolved an issue that prevented Kuando Busylight on-air status lights from displaying the color yellow.
  • Resolved an issue that caused from connecting a multicast RTSP stream from QSYS PTZ cameras.
  • Fixed an issue with H.265 range expansion that led to the washing out of colors on Pearl Nano.
  • Added support for a new chipset found in USB to RS-232 adapters which can be used to monitor and control Pearl Mini, Pearl Nexus and Pearl Nano.
  • FAQs

My Pearl has only one Ethernet port. Will this work?

Pearl-2, Pearl Nexus, and Pearl Mini running firmware 4.24 or later, can support Ethernet connectivity by way of a USB to Ethernet adapter.

Does this work on all models of Pearl?

This feature will work on Pearl-2, Pearl Mini, and Pearl Nexus.

Does this work with any USB to Ethernet adapter?

Most USB to Ethernet adapters will work, but we cannot guarantee every model will work properly.

Can I use this to stream video to two network destinations?

This feature is designed to separate control from video streaming or transport, however Pearl systems are capable of sending multiple streams over the network, for redundant workflows.
