What PCI interface is needed for DVI2PCIe Duo?
The DVI2PCIe Duo is compatible with PCI Express (PCIe) 2.1 or higher interface.
How can I verify whether my system has PCIe?
Most computers produced after 2007 support PCI Express. Please refer to your motherboard specifications to confirm it supports PCIe 2.0.
How many frames per second can DVI2PCIe Duo capture?
DVI2PCIe Duo can simultaneously capture 2 HD sources at 60 fps.
Does DVI2PCIe Duo reduce the resolution of the images it captures in order to transfer it over the PCIe bus?
No. DVI2PCIe Duo captures and transfers every pixel of the original source in RGB-24 format. DVI2PCIe Duo may optionally perform on-the-fly color-space conversion before transferring the image over PCI Express.
Can DVI2PCIe Duo work on Windows NT, Windows 3.x/95/98/SE/ME?
No. Unfortunately, these systems cannot adequately support PCI Express.
The video mode that I am using is not listed in the list of supported modes for DVI2PCIe Duo. Can DVI2PCIe Duo capture it?
Yes. You may add custom modes through the DVI2PCIe Duo software, available as a free download.
What Linux kernel does DVI2PCIe Duo support?
Linux drivers are available, refer to Drivers and Software Download page. Please contact us ahead of purchase if you require a driver compiled for a specific kernel version or kernel setting.
Can DVI2PCIe Duo save captured signals as a movie?
Yes, DVI2PCIe Duo software has the ability to save captured signals as AVI.
Which codec works best with DVI2PCIe Duo?
The choice of codec and codec settings depend on the requirements for the quality of the AVI. You may need to try several codecs with different settings to see which codec best fits your task.
Images captured from some sources appear to be slightly shifted right or left. How this can be fixed?
DVI2PCIe Duo has an automatic algorithm that crops visible images from the source frame. The algorithm may need some adjusting and can be easily corrected. Refer to section Configuring Image Adjustments in the user guide.
Can I connect two or more DVI2PCIe Duo devices to one computer and capture signals simultaneously? What is the resulting rate of capture for each DVI2PCIe Duo?
Yes, you can connect two or more DVI2PCIe Duo devices and capture multiple signals simultaneously. You will need to run a DVI2PCIe Duo application or a third party application for each DVI2PCIe Duo device attached.
With what software can I interpret the digital signal generated by the DVI2PCIe Duo device?
DVI2PCIe Duo is compatible with DirectShow and virtually any video capture software designed for Windows. For example, VirtualDUB can record AVI files, Microsoft Media Encoder to record WMV files, and RealProducer to record RM files. DVI2PCIe Duo also supports Video4Linux in Linux operating systems.
Does DVI2PCIe Duo perform frame compression?
No. DVI2PCIe Duo does not use frame compression, and as a result the output is high quality. If preferred you can compress the video by applying a codec.
Is DVI2PCIe Duo software compatible with Mac OS X?
DVI2PCIe Duo is no longer supported on Mac OS. However, you can still download older Mac firmware from the DVI2PCIe Duo download page.
Can I capture HDMI and VGA with DVI2PCIe Duo?
Yes. You can capture both the video and audio from an HDMI signal using an HDMI to DVI adapter (included). You can capture video from a VGA signal using a VGA-DVI cable (included). Note that DVI2PCIe Duo cannot capture a protected or encrypted HDMI signal. Epiphan does not guarantee results when using third party converters.
Does DVI2PCIe Duo support other inputs such as component, DisplayPort and Thunderbolt?
Yes. DVI2PCIe Duo can capture unencrypted images and video from component, DisplayPort, Mini DisplayPort, and Thunderbolt outputs. In order to capture video from these formats, the appropriate converter must be purchased separately. Epiphan does not guarantee results when using third party converters.
What is the difference between DVI2PCIe and DVI2PCIe Duo?
DVI2PCIe and DVI2PCIe Duo share a similar capture tool, both are internal frame grabbers and both capture DVI, HDMI and VGA input signals, however, DVI2PCIe Duo also supports 3G-SDI, HD-SDI and SD-SDI input signals.
Can I capture a video signal from S-Video or composite input source with DVI2PCIe Duo?
Yes. With an optional AV Kit you can add an S-Video/composite video port.
Can I add an additional audio input aside from the SDI and HDMI embedded audio?
Yes. With an optional AV Kit you can add a balanced (TRS) or unbalanced (3.5 mm) audio input.

This product is compatible with Linux (x86_64). The driver supports V4L (Video4Linux) interface along with specialized interfaces designed by Epiphan. Although we provide a Linux SDK (API for driver and examples), we do not provide source code for the driver itself. We provide binary drivers for major Linux distributions (Fedora, CentOS, Ubuntu, Debian, SUSE). Please contact us in advance of purchase to verify that we can support any other kernel or distribution.
