Quickstart, or deep dive, our user guide has got you covered.
What USB interface is needed for SDI2USB 3.0?
SDI2USB 3.0 is compatible with both USB 2.0 and USB 3.0 (SuperSpeed) USB interfaces.
How can I verify whether my system has USB 3.0?
USB 3.0, also known as SuperSpeed, is standard on all computers manufactured after 2011. Please check with your computer or motherboard manufacturer to verify that USB 3.0 is present on your system.
How many frames per second can SDI2USB 3.0 capture?
When connected to USB 3.0, SDI2USB 3.0 captures video with resolutions up to 1080p at 60 fps in YUV 4:2:0 color space. Consult the technical specifications for more information about capture rates.
Does SDI2USB 3.0 reduce the resolution of the images it captures in order to transfer it to the USB 3.0 connection?
No. SDI2USB 3.0 captures and transfers every pixel as RGB 24-bit. SDI2USB 3.0 performs chroma sub-sampling to a YUV format if selected by the user.
Can SDI2USB 3.0 work on Windows NT, Windows 3.x/95/98/SE/ME/2000?
No. Unfortunately, some of those systems have very poor support or no support at all for USB 3.0.
What Linux kernel does SDI2USB 3.0 support?
Linux drivers are available. Please contact us ahead of purchase if you require a driver compiled for a specific kernel version or kernel setting.
Can SDI2USB 3.0 save captured signals as a movie?
Yes. The SDI2USB 3.0 software has the ability to save captured signals as AVI.
Which codec works best with SDI2USB 3.0?
The choice of codec and codec settings depend on the requirements for the quality of the AVI. You may need to try several codecs with different settings to see which codec best fits your task.
Can I connect two or more SDI2USB 3.0 devices to one computer and capture signals simultaneously? What is the resulting rate of capture for each SDI2USB 3.0?
Yes. You can connect two or more SDI2USB 3.0 devices and capture multiple signals simultaneously. You will need to run an SDI2USB 3.0 application for each SDI2USB 3.0 device attached. Each SDI2USB 3.0 provides a full frame rate at 60 fps when USB 3.0 controllers support the transmission rate.
With what software can I interpret the digital signal generated by the SDI2USB 3.0 device?
The SDI2USB 3.0 frame grabber works by emulating a high resolution video camera for Windows. SDI2USB 3.0 is compatible with DirectShow and virtually any video capture software designed for Windows. For example, VirtualDUB can record .avi files, Microsoft Media Encoder to record .wmv files, and RealProducer to record .rm files. SDI2USB 3.0 also supports Video4Linux in Linux operating systems.
Does SDI2USB 3.0 perform frame compression?
The SDI2USB 3.0 does not use frame compression when connected to a USB 3.0 port and as a result the output is high quality. Compression is used for USB 2.0 connections.
Is SDI2USB 3.0 software compatible with Mac OS X?
SDI2USB 3.0 is no longer supported on Mac OS. However, you can still download older Mac firmware from the SDI2USB 3.0 download page.
