Palo Alto, California – June 18, 2014 – Broadening its line to meet the needs of video, broadcast and cinema
InfoComm 2014 Conference logoprofessionals, Epiphan Systems announced its first video capture device for use with 3G-SDI, HD-SDI, and SD-SDI video cameras and other SDI sources. The new SDI2USB 3.0 is a palm-sized peripheral that connects to desktop, laptop, or notebook computers via USB for live streaming, live conferencing, third-party recording, medical diagnostics and other uses of video from live or recorded SDI sources. The compact device acquires video at rates up to 60 frames per second in Full HD resolution, regardless of video content.

“The SDI2USB 3.0™ is a versatile, portable, and durable frame grabber designed for mission-critical roles in pro AV image capture, conferencing, digital signage, healthcare, test engineering, and other video data acquisition,” said David Kirk, Epiphan’s Vice President of Product Marketing. “Our announcement of a portable SDI device has been restlessly awaited by customers, who will be happy to see 3G-SDI capability being implemented across our entire line of products this year.”

“The SDI2USB 3.0 is a versatile, portable, and durable frame grabber designed for mission-critical roles in pro AV image capture, conferencing, digital signage, healthcare, test engineering, and other video data acquisition”

The new aluminum-clad device is equipped with input and output SDI connectors so that it may be installed in-line between a camera and an external display or confidence monitor. It captures video in true 24-bit color and works with a large number of third-party applications compatible for streaming with DirectShow (Windows), QuickTime (Mac OS) and Video4Linux.

“The ubiquity of PC-based software for encoding and streaming AV content is fueling huge growth in live streaming from every niche and corner of the market, from major production crews to solo producers with a camera and a laptop,” said Kirk. “They all need a means to capture on computer the AV source content coming from their mixing board or camera,” said Kirk. “The SDI2USB 3.0 is a highly portable, stand-alone solution providing the simplicity, quality and reliability they need.”

“Epiphan is the AV industry’s technology leader in this product area, and we believe the introduction of an SDI-compatible device will be very well received,” Kirk stated.

Kirk said the new frame grabber, like similar Epiphan products, is powered by its USB connection to the computer, and that the device works with Mac OS, Windows, and Linux PCs. It supports USB 3.0 and USB 2.0 connections.

The SDI2USB 3.0 measures approximately 3.6 x 2.4 x 0.9 inches (90 x 60 x 23 mm). It will be available this summer from authorized resellers and online from Epiphan. Pricing has not been announced.
