Nikon D5300 as DSLR camera for x2

Any experience Nikon D5300 as HDMI input for X2? The output should be 1080p, but does autofocus and HDMI output generally stay active for some hours. As outdoor sport camera, I don’t want to put too expensive camera in danger.
Any other ideas for such a camera wit zoom (about 500€)?
Thanks!

Yes the D5300 should work. It has a clean, live, 720P or 1080P output.
Auto focus should not be an issue.
However with any mirrored DSLR, they will not run for hours without shutting down at some point. DSLRs will lift the mirror/turn off every 20-30min typically.
If you need a camera that will active for hours, you would want a handycam/camcorder or mirror-less style.
One that many people recommend is the Panasonic G7 or G85

Hi,
I bought DMC-G80 (= G85). And it seems to work nice. I’m currently testing how long I can stream without reloading/changing the battery (50min so far). Dummy battery is an option, hopefully it won’t be needed.
Thanks for the comments!

Next steps in my project is wireless pan tilt head control and also wireless monitor for X2.

I have looking for solution to show scoreboard in PIP, but USB web cam (or capture card) doesn’t seem reliable. Maybe HDMI switch with PIP functionality is more robust solution.
