As many people do at the start of a new year, I’ve been doing some retrospective on the last year, taking a close look at how 2016 went for Epiphan.
We had how many new product launches??
The year 2016 saw the most new product launches in one year since I started at Epiphan: we launched 9 new products! In order from earliest to newest, we launched the following products in 2016 (in addition to multiple updates to existing products):
- Pearl Rackmount
- Pearl Rackmount Twin
- LUMiO 12x – our first PTZ camera
- AV.io 4K – our first 4K USB capture card, in the easy-to-use AV.io family line
- Pearl-2 – our next generation of the (still) wildly successful Pearl (capture, stream, record!!)
- Webcaster X1 for YouTube – social media streaming to YouTube
- Webcaster X1 for Facebook Live – social media streaming to Facebook Live
- Pearl-2 Rackmount
- Pearl-2 Rackmount Twin
Wow, that’s a bundle of product launches!
All these new products kept us on our toes, and there are some really impressive things in this list. Let me touch quickly on my favourites.
First, let’s look at Pearl. Our all-in-one live production system (switching, recording and streaming) expanded to a family of products in February. With a full complement of a portable desktop version and two dedicated rackmount models, there’s a version for every use case out there. We incorporated a lot of customer feedback into the rackmount models, including front-mounted USB and power buttons, and integrated power supplies.
Following quickly on the heels of the new Pearl models, we launched Pearl-2 in September and its two rackmount models in December. One thing our customers love about Pearl-2 is its 4K add-on capabilities. With two 4K HDMI input ports and two 12G SDI input ports, these systems give all the functionality of Pearl (more, actually) with the added benefit of 4K live production (either now or later).
And speaking of 4K, our first 4K product launch was AV.io 4K. Launched in June, this external USB capture card is the latest to our very popular AV.io family. It’s plug and play simplicity: no drivers or custom software needed, simply use your favourite capture or video sharing software to capture 4K at 30 fps or 1080p at 60 fps. Our customers love it, and it’s the only one of its kind that can capture 4K live gameplay from PS4 Pro and XBOX One S.
In 2016 our KVM2USB was used twice more at the International Space Station for PK4 experiments, we once again made the Streaming Media top 100 companies list, and AV.io 4K won an award at it’s inaugural show!
This year we also attended more shows than ever before. We attended ISE, InfoComm and many smaller shows (some new ones and some we’d been to in the past) with great success. And 2016 was the first year we had booths at NAB Show and IBC.
We also had some great growth internally to support all these changes. Nearly every team has grown, including the writing team bringing you these blogs! We also brought on great new partners to help us get these products into the hands of customers around the world.
On to 2017
So you can see, 2016 was a great year.
I’m really honored to be part of the team here at Epiphan who put heads and hearts into creating top-quality products we are all proud of. I can’t wait to see what 2017 brings us!
