SVRT presents technical talks related to realtime technologies and realtime user experiences. “Realtime” is a level of computer responsiveness that a user senses as sufficiently immediate or that enables the computer to keep up with some external process (for example, to present visualizations of the weather as it constantly changes).
The meetup is organized by Christina Keelan from RethinkDB (an open-source, document-distributed database) and Justin Karneges from realtime solution provider, Fanout. Silicon Valley Realtime (or simply “SVRT”) has been putting on events for over a year now, and members have enjoyed a great variety of talks from local tech companies, such as Redis Labs, Iron.io, and Docker.
The August 24th meetup featured speakers Lev Walkin from MZ and Devin Abbott from Deco Software. Lev discussed how to stress test servers for high numbers of connections and throughput, an important issue for MZ as they are the company behind the popular mobile games Game of War and Mobile Strike. Devin presented a new way to build native mobile apps with as little code as possible and observe changes made to a simulated app while it is running, greatly speeding up the development process.
Epiphan Video was the perfect venue for SVRT and everything went smoothly. They provided all the equipment and even live streamed and recorded the event. Recorded talks have been a common request for our meetup ever since we started, so it was great to finally be able to provide this. Epiphan Video combined multiple video feeds (mounted camera plus direct line to speaker’s laptop) and mixed the results live for a high quality production. Plus the staff was friendly and the office is ideally located near Caltrain. Looking forward to the next event!
