The EDUCAUSE Annual Conference is soon upon us and, at Epiphan, we’re thrilled to be a part of this exciting event.
From October 27–30, located in Indianapolis, Indiana, the EDUCAUSE Annual Conference is the premier higher education IT event, offering an engaging and informative program, formal and informal opportunities to build professional networks, and the valuable opportunity to learn, reflect, and engage with colleagues from around the world.
This is our first time at the EDUCAUSE Conference, and I’m personally looking forward to checking out the dynamic, community-generated content, the large Exhibit Hall with hundreds of products and service providers, and the valuable networking opportunities with national and international players in the education IT market.
I think this conference will be a good fit for us. We’re already world leaders in video capture, streaming and recording in a breadth of industries, and in an education context specifically, our AV tech is used in 1600+ schools and growing. Our open platform for lecture capture, Pearl, and our video grabbers and other capture systems integrate easily with existing learning management systems and hardware infrastructure and offer solutions for lecture capture, online education, distance education, as well as live event streaming and recording.
Of course the main reason we’ll be at EDUCAUSE is to demonstrate the value of Epiphan AV solutions in the classroom – specifically, our capture technology. But we won’t be doing it alone! We’ll be working together with one of our partners, Panopto, to help show how our video grabbers can be effectively combined with their video platform for use in education.
A bit of background for context here – Panopto creates software that enables businesses and universities to create secure, searchable video libraries. Panopto has qualified many of Epiphan’s capture solutions including different video grabbers and capture cards for use with Panopto software. The partnership between Epiphan and Panopto has existed since 2008, and it strengthens every year as both companies strive to make impact in lecture capture and live streaming for education.
So if you visit the Panopto booth (#642!) at the EDUCAUSE Annual Conference this year, you’ll see Epiphan specialists demonstrate how our portable HD video grabber, AV.io HD, integrates seamlessly with Panopto software (we’ll also be demonstrating a new, soon-to-be-released Epiphan grabber, so make sure to look for that!). The demo will show AV.io HD video grabbers connecting two HDMI™ pan-tilt-zoom (PTZ) cameras to a laptop running Panopto’s video platform, demonstrating a low-cost solution for HD lecture capture at educational facilities.
For those who don’t know, a PTZ camera is capable of remote directional and zoom control. “PTZ” is an abbreviation for pan, tilt and zoom, and reflects the movement options of the camera. There are a variety of types and brands of PTZ cameras, but in general, a quality PTZ camera will offer the following advantages in any lecture or classroom capture scenario:
- Optical quality for crystal-clear display of lecture learning material
- High zoom capability suitable for small rooms or larger lecture halls, allowing wide views of the entire room or the ability to zoom in to the presenter
- Remote control for AV teams to easily pan, tilt, and zoom the camera. This can be done using an infrared remote or using your IP network, allowing full camera control from a completely different campus building.
- Flexible placement for inconspicuous and convenient desktop or ceiling mounting in any size of classroom
I think visitors to the Panopto booth will find it really interesting to see a PTZ camera in action, especially when combined with Epiphan video grabbers to help capture the quality lecture material!
Overall, I’m optimistic about our first foray into EDUCAUSE and am eager to show off our advanced AV equipment which is perfect for lecture capture, continuing education, online education, school event streaming and recording and more.
You can count on Epiphan technology for everything you need to inspire innovation, promote interaction, and boost student performance.
