Create High-Quality Videos with BoinxTV and Epiphan VGA2USB

Boinx Software products enable Macintosh computer users to create professional “TV-style” recordings of video podcasts, events, lectures and seminars using the BoinxTV “television studio in a box.” Users can quickly create videos with high production quality.

Many Mac users turned to BoinxTV to record lectures and seminars, but that often created a problem: the speaker’s projected presentation slides did not translate well and were difficult to read in the final recording. So, Oliver Breidenbach, CEO of Boinx Software, searched for a way to incorporate lecture slides directly into BoinxTV videos. In researching frame grabbers online, Breidenbach discovered the Epiphan VGA2USB frame grabber.

“Epiphan's offering struck us as the most sophisticated,” explains Breidenbach. “We liked the fact that drivers for Mac OS X were readily available, and the VGA2USB price and feature set matched our project needs.”

Using VGA2USB, BoinxTV users can capture PowerPoint slides displayed on a projector in real time—and in high quality—and insert them into the recording of the presentation. This allows the viewer to watch both the presenter and the slides at the same time, and the presentation slides snapshots are very high quality.

In addition, BoinxTV users can use VGA2USB to stream their videos to the Internet. “VGA2USB can be used to transport the output of BoinxTV live to a second Mac where it can be fed into a web-based streaming video encoder of websites such as uStream or Stickam,” Breidenbach notes.

“This has allowed our solution to be used by a wider range of people for a broader range of purposes,” he adds. “Apart from capturing PowerPoint presentations, users can capture output from games, video conferences (Skype and iChat) and any other application. Moreover, being able to capture the output of BoinxTV and feed it into another computer lets users encode the video for streaming on a second machine or add audio from an interpreter to a video feed.” See video about VGA2USB with BoinxTV here.
