Epiphan Systems http://www.epiphan.com Epiphan Systems Inc. markets, develops, manufactures and supports an innovative line of VGA/DVI signal processing products. Epiphan products are external solutions for the capture, recording, broadcasting and printing of any computer monitor screen output. Fri, 07 Jun 2013 17:13:03 -0400 Epiphan Systems http://www.epiphan.com http://www.epiphan.com/images/logo_lg.gif Copyright 2008, Epiphan Systems Inc. en-us VGA Splitter | Other applications | Products http://www.epiphan.com/products/other-applications/vga-splitter/ Epiphan's active VGA Splitter GLI™ splits a VGA source into one Ground Loop Isolated VGA port, and a second fault-tolerant pass through VGA output port. Unlike traditional Y-splitter cables and active splitters, this product connects to your existing VGA cable, intercepts the VGA signals, amplifies the VGA signals, splits and generates a second ground loop isolated VGA output port.

Key Features

  • High Quality Active Splitter with built in Ground loop isolation
  • 2-port active splitter for conference rooms, event venues, industrial, and high-precision applications
  • Supports resolutions up to 2048x2048 @ 85Hz (e.g. Radar, ATC/ATM, control room displays )
  • Fault-tolerant port

Epiphan’s active VGA Splitter GLI has a high bandwidth 1 GHz signal amplifier that taps the incoming VGA source and splits it into two VGA outputs. The two VGA outputs are created without any loss in picture quality, resolution, or power, nor does it create additional loading on VGA cable length.

Advanced users can also create multiple VGA output port complexes by daisy chaining two or more VGA Splitter GLIs together to create various combinations of fault-tolerant and ground loop isolated ports.

This product is ideal for applications in noisy signal environments and multi monitor applications where the quality of the split VGA signals are critical.

Reasons to choose Epiphan's VGA Splitter GLI

  • Splits an incoming VGA cable into a Fault tolerant pass through VGA output and one ground loop isolated VGA output
  • Designed to meet the needs of 2048 x 2048 displays in ATC/ATM control room applications
  • High Bandwidth (1 Ghz) VGA signal preservation protects VGA output signals in a noisy environment, without any loss in picture quality, resolution, power or additional loading on VGA cable length
  • Multiple Epiphan splitters can be daisy chained to create multiple isolated VGA output ports
  • Works well with Epiphan’s family of Broadcasting, Frame Grabbers, Printers and Recording products

VGA Splitter Connection Diagram

Ground Loop Isolator

Epiphan's VGA Splitter GLI has an integrated ground loop isolation circuitry to reduce picture noise in a VGA stream. Noise often occurs due to a ground loop in the power wiring within an event venue, conference room, home, office, or industrial environment caused by differences in the electrical system. Ground Loop Noise is visible when a VGA monitor is connected to a PC or other VGA source via a VGA cable or traditional splitter, whereby an additional ground loop path for electricity flow is created, causing the electrical system to try to balance itself and resulting in noise in the image signals.

Ground Loop Isolation noise in video signal cleaned

When connected, the ground loop isolator works by breaking the ground between the VGA source and output display, eliminating the path for the current from an electrical imbalance to flow and eliminating all VGA noise caused by a ground loop.

VGA Splitter switches to ground loop isolation mode only when one VGA input and one VGA output are present. A VGA terminator must be connected to the VGA output port that is not in use. In other words, VGA Splitter can easily be transformed into a ground loop isolator for any VGA signal but in such a setup, will not support the cloning of a VGA signal.

1GHz Signal Bandwidth

Epiphan's splitter circuitry eliminates noise using a high bandwidth differential amplifier technique. This approach provides high signal quality for frequencies up to 1GHz which means that resolutions up to 2048×2048@85Hz are supported, with no loss in picture quality.

Fault Tolerant Output Port

A fault tolerant output port ensures that even if power to the VGA Splitter is suddenly cut, one VGA output port will still work.

VGA Splitter fault taulerant Connection passthrough

Ground Loop Examples

  • A venue has a number of PCs and display sources connected to a switch, which is then split with a Y-cable to a projector and a recording system. The display sources may be operating from a battery source, or one more different electrical circuits in the venue. The audio system and video recording systems may also happen to be in different parts of the venue, each powered by a separate electrical circuit - with possibly different ground references. The ground loop(s) between all these devices can create ground loop noise in the system and distort the image quality
  • Air traffic control rooms have multiple high resolution monitors, systems and servers that draw a lot of power. Recording systems and back up systems are often located on separate power circuits, backup or redundant power sources, each with different grounds, therefore creating ground loops.
  • Industrial sites with high powered machinery on a plant floor will often have different power sources than control systems and office equipment monitoring the plant operations. This is done by design to avoid inductive loading effects caused from the start/stop of high powered machines, however the machines on the plant floor and the factory control room may therefore float from different grounds - creating ground loops in the monitors

VGA2USB LR Visual Impairment Assistance Device

Epiphan VGA2USB LR Visual Impairment Assistance Device

VGA2USB LR can be used as a visual impairment assistance device as shown in the diagram. The person with a visual impairment connects their computer VGA output of the presenter computer, projector or smart white board via a splitter and a copy of the video stream is displayed on their laptop.

A big advantage this approach is that VGA2USB LR does not require any software to be installed on the presenter's computer. Changing presenter's is also a simple wire connection change. In fact, the content source is not restricted to a computer, it can be any equipment with a VGA output source

The visually impaired person can also use magnification tools to further amplify or zoom in on the images as they fit. VGA2USB LR is particularly suited to applications where the content is rich in resolution and has a higher frame rate requirement than simple slides with text. In the case of presentations with more static material and low frame rates, VGA2USB has less functionality, but can be a more cost effective solution.

KeyLogger | Other applications | Products http://www.epiphan.com/products/other-applications/keylogger/ Epiphan KeyLogger™ is a portable USB keyboard keystroke recording hardware device that is used to intercept, record, transmit and monitor USB keyboard Human Interface Device (HID) events generated by keystrokes.

      Epiphan KeyLogger Connection Diagram

      Key Features

      • Capture/Timestamp/Stream/Record Keyboard HID Events
      • Monitor keyboard keystrokes remotely via http/https/ftp
      • Record keyboard keystrokes to internal storage
      • Hardware based – no software to install on host computer being monitroed
      • Automatically push keyboard HID keystrokes to remote FTP, CIFS, RSYNC
      • Playback / Merge keystroke HID event log file as sub-titles(SRT) track with video track(s)
      • USB2.0 Bus powered

Epiphan KeyLogger is currently available through a special limited time Early Access Program.

Capture Keyboard Keystrokes as HID Events

Epiphan Keylogger is connected in between a USB keyboard and the host computer via USB.  The Keyboards keystrokes generate Human Interface Device (HID) events that Keylogger intercepts, time stamps, records to internal storage, and transmits in real time.

Monitor and Record USB Keyboard HID Events - Live

The Epiphan KeyLogger device also publishes the stream of HID events to a live web page for remote monitoring of the subject keyboard under test. The HID data stream format is a simple layout that can be integrated into applications. Applications can then analyze the live keyboard events stream to watch for keywords, measure response times, measure biometric response times and many other applications.

The time stamped HID Event log is also saved to internal storage [1.3G] for later retrieval such as applications that are not connected to the network during capture of HID events.

The timestamp HID Event log can also be automatically pushed to a network storage location via FTP, CIFS and

Post Process USB Keyboard HID Event logs

The HID event log is a simple format that can be parsed and integrated into sophisticated use-ability or simulation scenario playback. For example, the timestamp log can be merged with a video recording and aligned to specific video frames where the HID keyboard codes are played back as captions of the video recording. This powerful use-ability data shows exactly where the user used the keyboard in reaction to the use-ability stimulus presented, then shows the visual display response to the keyboard event.

This data is extremely powerful to conducing advanced simulation training and playback debriefing for such applications as video game development, subject under test reaction time for post event debriefing, advanced simulations for security control rooms, critical infrastructure protection control rooms and man machine user interface use-ability testing

      Typical Applications

Epiphan KeyLogger has a number of applications ranging from advance simulation systems, video game development, security monitoring, use-ability testing, simulation recording and playback, hardware test automation, software test automation.

      • Great for recording video demonstration and training vignettes from iPad, computer with presentations, DVI/HDMI cameras, medical displays and many other applications

DVI2USB Solo is Epiphan's most compact DVI capture device. At a capture rate of 30 frames per second, DVI2USB Solo can capture resolutions up to 1920x1200 from HDMI and single-link DVI signals. For DVI/DVI Dual Link see DVI2USBDuo , for VGA and DVI see DVI2USB 3.0

Unlike other capture solutions, DVI2USB Solo allows you to capture raw uncompressed video signals in 100% lossless quality. Whether you are capturing the output from the HDMI connector on a video or DSLR camera, or using DVI2USB Solo to record the images that appear on a DVI computer monitor, the output image will always be sharp.

Because DVI2USB Solo doesn't compress the image or video being captured, the user can select any CODEC to compress with on the computer being captured  to. Free software is included with the DVI2USB in order to achieve this. Furthermore, as an external USB device, DVI2USB Solo is fully compatible with 3rd party software that supports video capture from external sources, such as Adobe Premiere, VirtualDUB, and Windows Media Encoder. Like all other Epiphan products, Windows, Linux, and Mac OS are fully supported.

If you need to capture images from a HDMI or single-link DVI source and maintain diagnostic-quality lossless images, then DVI2USB Solo is what you have been looking for.

      DVI2USB Solo allows you to:

      • Capture images from any single-link DVI source.
      • Capture videos from the DVI source and save them as AVI files, .MOV when captured under OSX on a Mac.
      • capture DVI from mini display port, display port and thunderbolt interfaces using the appropriate adapter.

Multi Channel HD + SD Video and Audio Streaming Combinations

VGADVI Broadcaster Pro recording and streaming HD + SD video sources

VGADVI Broadcaster Pro has a compact model and a rack mount model, each with different video source capture capabilities.

Compact Model - The compact model captures an HD video source (VGA/RGB/Component/DVI/HDMI) (up to 1920x1200), an analog SD video source ( S-Video/Composite (PAL, NTSC)) and an audio source.

Rack mount model - The rack mount model captures up two HD channels (VGA/RGB/Component/DVI/DVI-DL/HDMI) sources, up to 2048×2048, from a display or camera video source, in parallel with up one or two SD video source channels and an audio source.

Encode to One or More Streams

VGADVI Broadcaster Pro encodes the input channels into a one or more streams with the choice of standard formats and customized settings such as CODEC, bit rate, frame size, transport protocol:

      Flash (H.264), ASF (MPEG4), ASF (H.264), RTP (MPEG-4), RTP (H.264), MJPEG

This feature is especially useful when the viewing communities have different bandwidth and viewing objectives or constraints.

Administrators can also custom brand multiple output stream layouts with picture in picture arrangement, time stamping, copyright notices, and other branding text.

Stream 1 Channel and/or Multiple Independent Channels

Multi-Source Picture with Picture Video Matrix / Multiplexing Features VGADVI Broadcaster Pro can be configured to synchronize, stream and record video sources as a single video channel or maintain the video sources as multi video channel streams.

Video Sizing and Layout VGADVI Broadcaster Pro automatically detects the resolution and refresh rate of the input signals and scales them to the resolutions and frame rates of your choosing. The size and position of each input source as it appears in the output stream can be customized to allow multiple video sources into a single output channel. Creating multiple channels using the same video input sources enables multiple streams of the same content using differing output resolutions and/or refresh rates. Create summary views consisting of multiple video sources without sacrificing the ability to stream all video sources on their own at their native resolutions and frame rates.

      Stream Options

      DVI2USB DUO Connection Diagram

DVI2USB Duo is the world's fastest dual link DVI capture device.

Being a frame grabber specifically made for those that need to capture the high-quality and high-resolution of a dual-link DVI video signal, DVI2USB Duo acquires frames at a transfer rate of up to 330 megapixels per second, compressing the stream on-the-fly and transfer compressed stream onto a computer using USB interface. It then has the ability to record and/or transmit these images over public, private or broadband wireless networks, enabling remote diagnosis of high resolution medical displays, air traffic control displays, control room monitors, and other situations in which a precise image of a high resolution video display source is required for accurate decision-making or replay.

DVI2USB DUO uses Epiphan Systems' cutting edge compression algorithm in order to provide lossless 100% quality images. DVI2USB DUO also allows you to:

      • Capture at a rate of up to 60 frames per second depending on content being captured.
      • Capture dual link DVI and single link DVI video signals from any device.

In all these and hundreds of similar cases it will be hard to do without VGA Grid from Epiphan Systems™.

        VGA Grid Product Description

VGA Grid™ allows you to create one or more channels that combine signals from multiple DVI, VGA or HDMI, composite, s-video and audio sources and relay them to one or more output channels to display, stream, record in a real time. No matter where the sources are located, in the same room or remote, live stream from the displays, cameras, medical imaging equipment or other video sources can be recorded, time-stamped and displayed onto one or more output streams.

VGA Grid consists of a 4U rackmount server with hardware for video/audio capture, Gigabit Ethernet and proprietary firmware. The broadcast rate varies between 640x480 and 2048x2048 with a maximum color depth of 24 bits. Please refer to the customization page to define the video capture inputs, resolutions and color depth required for your application. The captured sources can be broadcasted in a variety of different formats, including ASF, RTSP, Flash video, Motion JPEG. Furthermore, VGA Grid supports Adobe Flash technology and it is possible to view broadcasting directly from the browser.

        How does VGA Grid Work?

Received VGA signals are captured by the internal cards and optional external interfaces for additional remote video signal inputs. Through a user-friendly and secure web interface you can set the display mode of the captured signals, create various channels, customize channels to display simultaneously a number of selected sources with required resolution, or zoom in on a single source if necessary. They can also be concurrently broadcast/streamed in real time to a multitude of devices, such as laptops, computers, video walls, netbooks, PDAs, and iPhones. Timestamping of the various video signals is also available.

If your application needs to acquire and broadcast video from one or more remote sources,  both models are equipped with an Ethernet input for acquiring multiple VGA/DVI/HDMI signals from remote sources. With this product you get performance and durability without compromise – at a very good price.

        VGA Grid

Don’t Want to Be Limited to the Number of Input Sources? VGA Grid Can Be Customized to Your Budget and Application

Conceivably, it is possible you do not want to be limited to only 4 or 6 VGA sources and need some advanced functionality such as s-video and composite sources? Then we can build a Custom VGA Grid solution that best meets your requirements whatever they may be. This purpose-oriented model is assembled upon request and will address interests of a particular customer.

Custom VGA Grid allows you to specify the number of additional video signal inputs and types. Each of the sources should be connected to an external expansion frame grabber, e.g. VGA to Ethernet. The captured signal is transferred then over Ethernet to the VGA Grid’s Concentrator. Please refer to the customization page to specify how many sources you have, and what your requirements for image resolution and frame rate are.

        Recording? It’s that easy!

VGA Grid also allows you to acquire video from several sources, create a channel coalescing them, and then save and record this channel’s video in real time as a single video stream video file. We offer a 2TB Hard Disk Drive in the standard VGA Grid configuration, but this can be extended upon request by adding one or more 2TB Hard Disk Drives to the configuration. This functionality will ensure that continuous live video recording lasts for months and even more.

        Epiphan’s Mediphan technology named a «potentially life-saving innovation» by the Space Foundation

Ottawa, Canada. April 11, 2013 — Mediphan, a division of Epiphan Systems Inc, an innovator in professional audio-video capture and streaming technologies, has been inducted into the Space Foundation’s Space Technology Hall of Fame. The Space Technology Hall of Fame recognizes technologies that improve life on Earth but were originally developed for or dramatically improved by space applications. The induction was held on April 11, 2013 during the 29 th National Space Symposium in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

Mediphan was created by Epiphan Systems as a special unit to develop audio video capture, streaming, recording, and replay products and technologies for telemedicine and remote guidance applications. Mediphan’s products, DistanceDoc and MedRecorder, allow doctors to remotely view and record remote medical displays for diagnosis and medical training purposes.

Initially, Mediphan screen capture, streaming, and recording technology was developed and used to remotely train astronauts on the use of ultrasound equipment. Today, that same Mediphan-Epiphan technology is used in multiple medical equipment OEMs in many end markets such as ultrasound, defibrillation, eye care, pacemakers, gynecology, and pathology. Furthermore, the technology is being used across several product lines of Epiphan Systems’ VGA/DVI/HDMI video display frame grabbers, multimedia display broadcast streaming systems, recording systems, and accessories.

Epiphan and Mediphan screen capture technologies are used in these products available to the general public:

        • DVI2USB 3.0, which adds telemedicine capability to existing medical equipment by allowing users to share medical images and live video over communication software such as Skype or WebEx.
        • Lecture Recorder x2, which can capture any HD medical display and SD Camera to record and stream them directly over the internet.
        • VGADVI Recorder Pro, which brings 2 SD and 2 HD channels enabling the viewing, recording, and streaming of multiple medical displays and cameras.
        • VGA GRID, which captures and combines multiple SD, HD and higher resolution channels at very high frame rates into a complete control panel view of cameras and medical equipment displays.

About Space Foundation’s Space Technology Hall of Fame

The Space Technology Hall of Fame® increases public awareness of the benefits of space exploration and encourages further innovation by recognizing individuals, organizations and companies that effectively adapt and market technologies originally developed for space to improve the quality of life for all humanity.

Epiphan Introduces DVI2USB 3.0 – Next Generation, High Performance External Frame Grabber | 01-15 | 2013 | News http://www.epiphan.com/company/news/2013/01-15/epiphan-introduces-dvi2usb-3-0-next-generation-high-performance-external-frame-grabber/ January 15, 2013, Ottawa, Canada – Epiphan Systems Inc., an innovator in professional audio-visual capture, record, broadcast streaming and replay hardware products has introduced a new member to its family of external frame grabbers, the DVI2USB 3.0.  This new product is Epiphan’s most versatile and highest performance external grabber ever.

        DVI2USB 3.0

DVI2USB 3.0 captures video signals from VGA, HDMI, and DVI sources and supports either USB 3.0 or USB 2.0 connectivity to a host computer.  All of this flexibility is packed into in a sleek and robust aluminum case that fits in the palm of your hand.

        DVI2USB 3.0 Connection Diagram

DVI2USB 3.0 takes advantage of the increased throughput of USB 3.0 SuperSpeed to deliver outstanding performance.  It captures full HD video signals uncompressed at 30 frames per second while maintaining true 24-bit colour to preserve the quality and integrity of the original source signal.  Because it does not implement compression to achieve the 30 fps throughput this performance is independent of video content no matter how dynamic.

DVI2USB 3.0 draws its power from the host computer USB 3.0 link so that no external power source is required.  It is easily connected in a matter of seconds with one cable to the host computer and another to the video source.

DVI2USB 3.0 comes complete with Epiphan Capture software and drivers for Windows, MAC and Linux systems.  This software is compatible with DirectShow, QuickTime, and V4L (Video for Linux) for integration with 3rd party imaging software.  The software is common across the whole family of frame grabbers enabling a smooth migration from other frame grabber models to this newer high performance model.

        MSRP for DVI2USB 3.0 is 699.95 USD.

        DVI2USB 3.0 can be pre-ordered immediately for shipment on March 1, 2013.

For more information on DVI2USB3.0, please visit the DVI2USB 3.0 product page.
