VGA Grid™ allows you to create one or more channels that combine signals from multiple DVI, VGA or HDMI sources and relay them to a single display in a real time. No matter where the sources are located, in the same room or remote, live stream from the displays, cameras, medical imaging equipment or other video sources can be recorded, time-stamped and displayed on a single screen.

VGA Grid consists of a 4U rackmount server with hardware for video/audio capture, Gigabit Ethernet and proprietary firmware. The broadcast rate varies between 640x480 and 2048x2048 with a maximum color depth of 32 bits. Please refer to the customization page to define the video capture inputs, resolutions and color depth required for your application. The captured sources can be broadcasted in a variety of different formats, including ASF, RTSP, Flash video, Motion JPEG. Furthermore, VGA Grid supports Adobe Flash technology and it is possible to view broadcasting directly from the browser.

How does VGA Grid Work?

Received VGA signals are captured by the internal cards, and optional external interfaces for additional remote video signal inputs. Through a user-friendly and secure web interface you can set the display mode of the captured signals, create various channels, customize channels to display simultaneously a number of selected sources with required resolution, or zoom in on a single source if necessary. They can also be concurrently broadcasted in real time to a multitude of devices, such as laptops, computers, video walls, netbooks, PDAs, and iPhones. Timestamping of the various video signals is also available.

How Is VGA Grid Available?

Epiphan Systems offers two off-the-shelf VGA Grid models:

• 4-source VGA Grid
• 6-source VGA Grid

These models provide interfaces to capture 4 or 6 VGA/DVI sources respectively. These two default configurations are ideal for acquiring and broadcasting video signals from multiple video sources where the VGA Grid is collocated with the video sources. If your application needs to acquire and broadcast video from one or more remote sources, VGA Grid is equipped with an Ethernet input for acquiring signals from remote sources. With this product you get performance and durability without compromise – at a very good price.

Conceivably, it is possible you do not want to be limited to only 4 or 6 sources and need some advanced functionality? Then we can build a Custom VGA Grid solution that best meets your requirements whatever they may be. This purpose-oriented model is assembled upon request and will address interests of a particular customer.

Custom VGA Grid allows you to specify the number of additional video signal inputs. Each of the sources should be connected to an external expansion frame grabber, e.g. VGA to Ethernet. The captured signal is transferred then over Ethernet to the VGA Grid’s Concentrator. VGA Grid also allows you to acquire video from several sources, create a channel coalescing them, and then save and record this channel’s video in real time as a single video stream video file. We offer a 1TB Hard Disk Drive in the standard VGA Grid configuration, but this can be extended upon request by adding one or more 1TB Hard Disk Drives to the configuration. This functionality will ensure that continuous live video recording lasts for months and even more.

Because FPGA and 32MB RAM lossless compression is performed on board with normal utilization USB bus bandwidth, lossless 1600 x 1200 with 30 fps is achievable in the majority of applications.

Unlike other capture solutions, DVI2USB Solo allows you to capture raw uncompressed video signals in 100% lossless quality. Whether you are capturing the output from the HDMI connector on a video or DSLR camera, or using DVI2USB Solo to record the images that appear on a DVI computer monitor, the output image will always be sharp.

Because DVI2USB Solo doesn't compress the image or video being captured, the user can select any CODEC to compress with on the computer being captured  to. Unlike VCR-based solutions, the VGA Recorder Lite captures the VGA image at full resolution and maintains 100% image quality. What’s more, the VGA Recorder Lite is lightweight, rugged, and portable, making it easy to transport between different locations.

VGA Recorder Lite is an external solution and is configurable through an easy to use web interface. When connected to a local area network (LAN) or the Internet, VGA Recorder Lite is able to automatically archive its recordings to the user’s FTP repository. The user is also able to remotely monitor VGA Recorder Lite’s status and access the recordings that it has made.

VGA Recorder Lite can operate in 2 different modes:

VGA Capture

In order for the DVI2USB to capture a VGA signal, the VGA-to-DVI adapter must be connected to the DVI port of the DVI2USB (included with DVI2USB).

DVI Capture

DVI2USB is capable of capturing any single-link DVI signal (up to 1920x1200). If you require dual-link DVI capture or support for resolutions above 1920x1200, you need DVI2USB DUO.

HDMI Capture

HDMI capture is possible using a HDMI to DVI adapter (purchased separately). The audio stream will not be captured during HDMI capture. Furthermore, HDCP or copy-protected content cannot be captured using DVI2USB.

Designed primarily for PostScript-compatible printers, VGA Printer makes it possible to easily and cost-effectively capture and print images from medical equipment, microscopes, televisions and other specialized imaging products that have VGA output.

How it works

The video source or presentation projector is connected to the VGA2WiFi device via a standard DVI or VGA cable. Viewers can then access the live broadcast by connecting to the VGA2WiFi access point, launching a web browser, and entering the address of the broadcast.

As VGA2WiFi uses  JPEG for compression, no additional software or codecs need to be installed on the viewer’s computers or mobile devices. As well, since VGA2WiFi is a stand-alone external device, the source device does not need to be modified in any way.

Epiphan's VGA Splitter has several advantages over conventional active 2-port VGA video splitters, including 1GhZ bandwidth and fault tolerant output support, as well as integrated ground loop isolation.

Ground Loop Isolator

An integrated ground loop isolation circuit helps reduce picture noise in a VGA stream. Noise often occurs due to a ground loop in the power wiring within a home, office, or industrial envi­ronment caused by differences in the resistance in the electrical system. When a VGA monitor is connected to a PC or other VGA source via a VGA cable or traditional splitter, a path for electricity flow is created, causing the electrical system to try to balance itself and resulting in noise.

When connected, the ground loop isolator works by breaking the ground between the VGA source and output, eliminating the path for the current from an electrical imbalance to flow and eliminating all VGA noise caused by a ground loop.

1GHz Signal Bandwidth

A high signal bandwidth of 1GHz means that resolutions up to 2048×2048@85Hz are sup­ported, with no loss in picture quality.

Fault Tolerant Output Port

A fault tolerant output port ensures that even if power to the VGA Splitter is suddenly cut, one VGA output port will still work.

Eliminate distance limitations by installing a KVM2Ethernet connected to every unit of equipment that needs to be administered remotely. With VGA Bridge, conference organizers can easily multiply the number of projectors or other displays used in large rooms or multiple rooms. And, geographically dispersed organizations can share presentations and other electronic images in real-time, without the set-up hassles or costs of web conference services.

VGA Bridge sends the VGA output from the source over Ethernet, to another VGA Bridge connected to another projector or display screen. Remote participants can view the original source in real-time, including while speaking with or listening to the presenter on the phone.

How it Works

To use VGA Broadcaster, the presenter simply plugs the DVI or VGA cable from the source device into the VGA Broadcaster product. VGA Broadcaster then interacts with the Epiphan Systems collaboration server to deliver the visual content to remote participants via the web. Remote participants can open their browser or a streaming media player and enter the presentation's password in order to view it. For more details, you can read the VGA Broadcaster specifications.

How it Works

VGA Broadcaster PRO then synchronises all the inputs and interacts with the Epiphan Systems collaboration server to deliver the visual content to remote participants via the web. VGA Recorder PRO is invaluable for recording presentations, conferences, training sessions and user interaction with computers and other VGA devices, and for general monitoring and surveillance purposes.

VGA Recorder PRO is simple to use. It is an external standalone device configurable through its easy to use web interface. The VGA Recorder Pro is available as a 4U rack mount chassis.

When combined with other Epiphan Systems products, VGA Recorder PRO can:

• Print VGA/RGB images (with VGA Printer)
• Record remote meetings, web-based training, technical support and demos (with VGA2WEB or any collaboration software)

Because VGA Recorder Pro is an external device, users do not need to open their computers to install it.

What's more, the DVI2USB RM version of the DVI2USB device can, by request, be powered from USB meaning that no external power source is required for the device to function.

Physically, the DVI2USB RM is a 1U rackmount device with LED lights indicating operation state (power, signal, capture) at the front and with DVI and USB Type B connectors at the rear of the unit.

The Texas Instruments DaVinci DSP chip is at the heart of the DaVinci Development Kit, and allows the appliance to capture, compress, and transmit high definition 1080p video at 20 frames per second using MPEG4 compression.  The DaVinci development kit works with a VGA, DVI, composite video, as well as audio inputs.

The DaVinci Development Kit comes with an API and detailed examples on the functionality of the unit and can be used as part of custom video capture applications in fields such as education and telemedicine. The ability to synchronously record and broadcast audio and video means that the DaVinci development kit is ideal for virtually any video capture application. Being able to capture resolutions up to 1920 x 1200, VGA2PCIe can achieve capture rates of up to 85 frames per second at most resolutions. Furthermore, the use of the PCI Express interface allows the VGA2PCIe to relay raw, uncompressed, and 100% lossless quality images to the computer.

Designed for demanding industrial environments, the VGA Splitter from Epiphan differs from other similar active 2-port splitter offerings with the addition of several key features.

Firstly, the VGA Splitter has support for up to 1GhZ of bandwidth, meaning that it is compatible with all VGA resolutions up to 2048 x 2048 @ 85hZ. Secondly, the VGA Splitter has an integrated ground loop isolation circuit as well as a fault tolerant output port that outputs VGA video even when no power is supplied to the splitter.
