Palo Alto, California - June 18, 2014 - Broadening its line to meet the needs of video, broadcast and cinema professionals, Epiphan Systems announced its first video capture device for use with 3G-SDI, HD-SDI, and SD-SDI video cameras and other SDI sources. The new SDI2USB 3.0 is a palm-sized peripheral that connects to desktop, laptop, or notebook computers via USB for live streaming, live conferencing, third-party recording, medical diagnostics and other uses of video from live or recorded SDI sources. The compact device acquires video at rates up to 60 frames per second in Full HD resolution, regardless of video content.

"The SDI2USB 3.0™ is a versatile, portable, and durable frame grabber designed for mission-critical roles in pro AV image capture, conferencing, digital signage, healthcare, test engineering, and other video data acquisition," said David Kirk, Epiphan's Vice President of Product Marketing. "Our announcement of a portable SDI device has been restlessly awaited by customers, who will be happy to see 3G-SDI capability being implemented across our entire line of products this year."

The new aluminum-clad device is equipped with input and output SDI connectors so that it may be installed in-line between a camera and an external display or confidence monitor. It captures video in true 24-bit color and works with a large number of third-party applications compatible for streaming with DirectShow (Windows), QuickTime (Mac OS) and Video4Linux.

"The ubiquity of PC-based software for encoding and streaming AV content is fueling huge growth in live streaming from every niche and corner of the market, from major production crews to solo producers with a camera and a laptop," said Kirk. "They all need a means to capture on computer the AV source content coming from their mixing board or camera," said Kirk. "The SDI2USB 3.0 is a highly portable, stand-alone solution providing the simplicity, quality and reliability they need."

"Epiphan is the AV industry's technology leader in this product area, and we believe the introduction of an SDI-compatible device will be very well received," Kirk stated.

Kirk said the new frame grabber, like similar Epiphan products, is powered by its USB connection to the computer, and that the device works with Mac OS, Windows, and Linux PCs. It supports USB 3.0 and USB 2.0 connections.

The SDI2USB 3.0 measures approximately 3.6 x 2.4 x 0.9 inches (90 x 60 x 23 mm). It will be available this summer from authorized resellers and online from Epiphan. Pricing has not been announced.

Infocomm 2014

Palo Alto, California - June 18, 2014 - Announcing a major initiative to expand and deepen relationships with AV resellers, systems integrators, OEMs, Internet technology companies, and other industry firms, Epiphan Systems today launched the Epiphan Partner Program, including a partner-only portal where members have exclusive access to technical information, training, business marketing and planning tools, forums, and other resources. Epiphan is a leading innovator and maker of products for capturing, streaming, and recording live, high definition AV content from any source or display.

"We don't have an in-house team for end-user sales," said Louise McEvoy, Epiphan's director of channel sales. "Our partners are our sales force, and we want a better means of providing timely information and leads, sharing knowledge, promoting best practices, and helping all our business and technology partners - integrators, content distribution networks, and others - maximize the potential of our company's people, products and technology. The program and especially the new portal are big steps in that direction."

"Epiphan is fortunate to be at the nexus of a very fast growing market for streaming and recording live content," stated McEvoy. "We will continue to do more to stay ahead of the market, and we're always looking for ways to improve our relationships with our partners. With the portal, we have a resource we can build on." The partner portal has been in beta test with selected companies and will now be made available to all firms joining the partner program.

Among the other benefits available to program participants, depending on sales volume, are lead generation campaigns, onsite training, in-field product replacement, additional price discounts, and provision of demo equipment. "To make the most sales, integrators need to be able to show customers how systems will look and operate. We get that, and we want to make it as easy possible," McEvoy said.

Telestream Wirecast Adds Support for Epiphan Devices | 06-12 | 2014 | News http://www.epiphan.com/company/news/2014/06-12/telestream-wirecast-adds-support-for-epiphan-devices/

Telestream

Nevada City, Calif. June 12, 2014Telestream®, the leading provider of digital media tools and workflow solutions, today announced the integration of Epiphan VGA, DVI, HDMI frame grabber devices with Wirecast 5. Now Wirecast users can capture, record, and broadcast high resolution and high frame rate video signals from virtually any display source including laptop displays, tablet displays, cameras, industrial displays
and medical equipment.

“It’s very exciting to see Epiphan frame grabber products work seamlessly with Wirecast,” says Barb DeHart, VP desktop products at Telestream. “Using Wirecast with Epiphan DVI2USB3.0 and DVI2PCIe frame grabbers will dramatically increase the number and type of sources of video signals that our customers include as part of their Wirecast webcasts.”

Northwestern University has been successfully using Epiphan and Wirecast products for many years as part of the university’s growing requirement to capture, record and stream lectures that are given by their professors; to both the onsite and remote student population. The joint solution allows the university to capture a lecturers’ VGA, DVI, HDMI displays, cameras, microscopes and other video sources without installing any software on the video source being streamed by Wirecast. This provides a very guest-friendly environment for visiting professors. They are able to present directly from their own laptops as though they were simply connecting to a room projector, when in fact their content is being captured and streamed. There is no need for them to load any software or make any changes to their laptop, which makes the process much more simple, timely and secure.

About Wirecast

Wirecast is the only cross-platform, all-in-one live streaming production software that enables capture, live production, and encoding of live streams for broadcast to multiple servers and platforms simultaneously. Wirecast is ideal for streaming or recording live internet shows, broadcasting breaking news and sports, streaming live concerts and games, transmitting church services, corporate meetings, lectures and more. Pro production features include live scoreboards, 3D virtual sets, chroma key support, advanced audio controls and more.

Epiphan Announces HDMI audio, 60 FPS support for DVI2USB 3.0 | 03-18 | 2014 | News http://www.epiphan.com/company/news/2014/03-18/epiphan-announces-hdmi-audio-60-fps-support-for-dvi2usb-3-0/ Epiphan Systems has announced that DVI2USB 3.0, the most versatile frame grabber in its product line, now captures Full HD video at 60 frames per second (FPS) and supports simultaneous capture of embedded HDMI audio. This brings performance which is typically only available using internal capture cards in dedicated systems to the much more convenient and versatile world of external frame grabbers.

DVI2USB 3.0 is a versatile, high performance frame grabber that performs lossless capture of Full HD video (1920×1200/1920×1080) from HDMI, DVI, or VGA over a USB 3.0 interface. Regardless of whether the source signal is from a video camera, computer display, iPad/tablet, conferencing system, or industrial/medical instrumentation, the DVI2USB 3.0 can capture it for recording or streaming using virtually any computer or laptop.

DVI2USB 3.0 works seamlessly with 3rd party applications such as Windows Media Encoder, Adobe Flash Media Live Encoder or VLC. Using these and other popular applications customers can select a YUV 4:2:0 color format to enable capture of Full HD video at 60 FPS. RGB to YUV color format conversion including Chroma‐subsampling is performed in the DVI2USB 3.0 hardware to ensure maximum performance and quality. Audio captured from HDMI signals remains digitally encoded and kept in perfect synchronization with the accompanying HDMI video, taking full advantage of the inherent noise immunity of digital signals and eliminating any introduction of lip synch issues in the capture process.

By adding support for 60 FPS Full HD video capture and dual‐channel/stereo HDMI audio, DVI2USB 3.0, the benchmark capture device for professional, industrial, and precision video solutions, is capable of meeting the requirements for even the most demanding applications. Capturing video at 60 FPS and simultaneously capturing the accompanying digital audio ensures that your captured data is as life like as the original signal. “For cameras and computer displays 1080p is now the resolution of choice ‐ that’s Full HD at 60 frames per second. Capturing at 60 FPS, DVI2USB 3.0 is performing frame‐by‐frame capture of a 1080p signal resulting in captured video which is every bit as smooth and fluid as the original source. This level of quality can be critical for certain applications such as medicine, aerospace, and forensic evidence capture, but the benefits of capturing video content in its highest possible quality are realized in nearly every application from security to education”, says David Kirk, Director of Product Management.
