VGA2USB LR Visual Impairment Assistance Device

Epiphan VGA2USB LR Visual Impairment Assistance Device

VGA2USB LR can be used as a visual impairment assistance device as shown in the diagram. The person with a visual impairment connects their computer VGA output of the presenter computer, projector or smart white board via a splitter and a copy of the video stream is displayed on their laptop.

A big advantage this approach is that VGA2USB LR does not require any software to be installed on the presenter's computer. Changing presenter's is also a simple wire connection change. In fact, the content source is not restricted to a computer, it can be any equipment with a VGA output source

The visually impaired person can also use magnification tools to further amplify or zoom in on the images as they fit. VGA2USB LR is particularly suited to applications where the content is rich in resolution and has a higher frame rate requirement than simple slides with text. In the case of presentations with more static material and low frame rates, VGA2USB has less functionality, but can be a more cost effective solution.

VGA Splitter | Other applications | Products http://www.epiphan.com/products/other-applications/vga-splitter/ Epiphan's active VGA Splitter GLI™ splits a VGA source into one Ground Loop Isolated VGA port, and a second fault-tolerant pass through VGA output port. Unlike traditional Y-splitter cables and active splitters, this product connects to your existing VGA cable, intercepts the VGA signals, amplifies the signals, and then generates a second ground loop isolated VGA output port.

Key Features

  • High Quality Active Splitter with built in Ground loop isolation
  • 2-port active splitter for conference rooms, event venues, industrial, and high-precision applications
  • Supports resolutions up to 2048x2048 @ 85Hz (e.g. Radar, ATC/ATM, control room displays )
  • Fault-tolerant port

Epiphan’s active VGA Splitter GLI has a high bandwidth 1 GHz signal amplifier that taps the incoming VGA source and splits it into two VGA outputs. The two VGA outputs are created without any loss in picture quality, resolution, or power, nor does it create additional loading on VGA cable length.

Advanced users can also create multiple VGA output port complexes by daisy chaining two or more VGA Splitter GLIs together to create various combinations of fault-tolerant and ground loop isolated ports.

This product is ideal for applications in noisy signal environments and multi monitor applications where the quality of the split VGA signals are critical.

Reasons to choose Epiphan's VGA Splitter GLI

  • Splits an incoming VGA cable into a Fault tolerant pass through VGA output and one ground loop isolated VGA output
  • Designed specifically for 2048 x 2048 ATC/ATM control room applications
  • High Bandwidth (1 Ghz) VGA signal preservation protects VGA output signals in a noisy environment, without any loss in picture quality, resolution, power or additional loading on VGA cable length
  • Multiple Epiphan splitters can be daisy chained to create multiple isolated VGA output ports
  • Works well with Epiphan’s family of Broadcasting, Frame Grabbers, Printers and Recording products

VGA Splitter Connection Diagram

Ground Loop Isolator

Epiphan's VGA Splitter GLI has an integrated ground loop isolation circuitry to reduce picture noise in a VGA stream. Noise often occurs due to a ground loop in the power wiring within an event venue, conference room, home, office, or industrial environment caused by differences in the electrical system. Ground Loop Noise is visible when a VGA monitor is connected to a PC or other VGA source via a VGA cable or traditional splitter, whereby an additional ground loop path for electricity flow is created, causing the electrical system to try to balance itself and resulting in noise in the image signals.

Ground Loop Isolation Diagram

When connected, the ground loop isolator works by breaking the ground between the VGA source and output display, eliminating the path for the current from an electrical imbalance to flow and eliminating all VGA noise caused by a ground loop.

VGA Splitter switches to ground loop isolation mode only when one VGA input and one VGA output are present. A VGA terminator must be connected to the VGA output port that is not in use. In other words, VGA Splitter can easily be transformed into a ground loop isolator for any VGA signal but in such a setup, will not support the cloning of a VGA signal.

1GHz Signal Bandwidth

A high signal bandwidth of 1GHz means that resolutions up to 2048×2048@85Hz are supported, with no loss in picture quality.

Fault Tolerant Output Port

A fault tolerant output port ensures that even if power to the VGA Splitter is suddenly cut, one VGA output port will still work.

VGA Splitter Connection Diagram

Ground Loop Examples

  • A venue has a number of PCs and display sources connected to a switch, which is then split with a Y-cable to a projector and a recording system. The display sources may be operating from a battery source, or one more different electrical circuits in the venue. The audio system and video recording systems may also happen to be in different parts of the venue, each powered by a separate electrical circuit - with possibly different ground references. The ground loop(s) between all these devices can create ground loop noise in the system and distort the image quality
  • Air traffic control rooms have multiple high resolution monitors, systems and servers that draw a lot of power. Recording systems and back up systems are often located on separate power circuits, backup or redundant power sources, each with different grounds, therefore creating ground loops.
  • Industrial sites with high powered machinery on a plant floor will often have different power sources than control systems and office equipment monitoring the plant operations. This is done by design to avoid inductive loading effects caused from the start/stop of high powered machines, however the machines on the plant floor and the factory control room may therefore float from different grounds - creating ground loops in the monitors

Matterhorn Capture Device Features Description

Integrated DVI/VGA support - Epiphan's Matterhorn Capture Device comes packed with an integrated frame grabber on-board. It is able to capture signals from both VGA and DVI sources at  resolutions up to 1920x1080 and can achieve capture rates of up to 30 frames per second, meaning that even full motion video and animations that are shown on the presenter's computer are captured, archived, and broadcast in the highest possible quality. Furthermore, unencrypted HDMI video can be captured using a DVI to HDMI adapter.

Audio/Video support - Matterhorn Capture Device has an integrated S-Video input, allowing it to capture analog video at resolutions up to 480i or 640x480 at up to 30 frames per second. Furthermore, a line-in for audio means that the presenter's microphone or audio can be captured as well. Adapters that convert analog video signals into a S-Video signal can also be used in order to capture composite video.

Stand-alone Integrated Capture Appliance - As part of the Opencast lecture capture system, Matterhorn Capture Device works as a stand-alone appliance, sending data over the Ethernet interface to the Matterhorn video capture server. No additional capture agent or hardware is required as the device works out-of-the-box. The device is powered by Power over Ethernet, meaning that no separate power supplies are required, thus reducing clutter and making it easy to install.

VGA Grid Product Description

VGA Grid™ allows you to create one or more channels that combine signals from multiple DVI, VGA or HDMI, composite, s-video and audio sources and relay them to one or more output channels to display, stream, record in a real time. No matter where the sources are located, in the same room or remote, live stream from the displays, cameras, medical imaging equipment or other video sources can be recorded, time-stamped and displayed onto one or more output streams.

VGA Grid consists of a 4U rackmount server with hardware for video/audio capture, Gigabit Ethernet and proprietary firmware. The broadcast rate varies between 640x480 and 2048x2048 with a maximum color depth of 32 bits. Please refer to the customization page to define the video capture inputs, resolutions and color depth required for your application. The captured sources can be broadcasted in a variety of different formats, including ASF, RTSP, Flash video, Motion JPEG. Furthermore, VGA Grid supports Adobe Flash technology and it is possible to view broadcasting directly from the browser.

How does VGA Grid Work?

Received VGA signals are captured by the internal cards and optional external interfaces for additional remote video signal inputs. Through a user-friendly and secure web interface you can set the display mode of the captured signals, create various channels, customize channels to display simultaneously a number of selected sources with required resolution, or zoom in on a single source if necessary. They can also be concurrently broadcast/streamed in real time to a multitude of devices, such as laptops, computers, video walls, netbooks, PDAs, and iPhones. Timestamping of the various video signals is also available.

VGA Grid

Don’t Want to Be Limited to the Number of Input Sources? VGA Grid Can Be Customized to Your Budget and Application

Conceivably, it is possible you do not want to be limited to only 4 or 6 VGA sources and need some advanced functionality such as s-video , composite and DVI sources? Then we can build a Custom VGA Grid solution that best meets your requirements whatever they may be. This purpose-oriented model is assembled upon request and will address interests of a particular customer.

Custom VGA Grid allows you to specify the number of additional video signal inputs and types. Each of the sources should be connected to an external expansion frame grabber, e.g. VGA to Ethernet. The captured signal is transferred then over Ethernet to the VGA Grid’s Concentrator. Please refer to the customization page to specify how many sources you have, and what your requirements for image resolution and frame rate are.

Recording? It’s that easy!

VGA Grid also allows you to acquire video from several sources, create a channel coalescing them, and then save and record this channel’s video in real time as a single video stream video file. We offer a 1TB Hard Disk Drive in the standard VGA Grid configuration, but this can be extended upon request by adding one or more 1TB Hard Disk Drives to the configuration. This functionality will ensure that continuous live video recording lasts for months and even more.

VGA Bridge | Broadcasting | Products http://www.epiphan.com/products/broadcasting/vga-bridge/ Epiphan VGA Bridge™ is an ultra long distance VGA/DVI/HDMI display source extender.
VGA Bridge is a unique solution that enables a user to propagate the DVI, HDMI1 video or VGA output from any display source to another projector or display screen equipped with another VGA Bridge elsewhere on the high speed network

VGA/DVI/HDMI Bridge - Extender over Ethernet

Key Features

  • Compact device for transmitting DVI/VGA/HDMI over LAN or high speed WAN
  • Share one DVI/VGA/HDMI video output between two remote locations
  • Stand-alone hardware solution, no software required
  • Built-in VGA/DVI/HDMI Splitter-Converter for local and remote display
  • Encoded video signals transmitted over network

VGA Bridge - How it Works

VGA Bridge sends the video output from the source over Ethernet, to another VGA Bridge connected to another projector or display screen. Remote participants can view the original source in real-time, including while speaking with or listening to the presenter on the phone.

As VGA Bridge is a 100% stand-alone external portable appliance device, the source display equipment does not need to be modified in any way. What's more, there is no need for a separate computer on the receiving side. Simply plug the destination monitor that you would like to see the synchronized picture on directly into the VGA Bridge. Virtually every monitor and projector with VGA, DVI, or HDMI capability is compatible with the VGA Bridge.

When two VGA Bridges are connected to a network via an Ethernet connection, they automatically pair once powered on, instantly synchronize the image coming from the input signal to the target monitor.

Epiphan's VGA Bridge supports all VGA, DVI, and HDMI resolutions up to 1920×1200 and, under most conditions, is able to convey a diagnostic-quality signal at transfer rates in excess of 30 frames per second.

HDMI support is limited to unencrypted video signals only.

BROADCASTER LITE SAMPLE APPLICATIONS

Broadcaster Lite for Presentation or Webinar Broadcast

VGA Broadcaster Lite Presentation - Webinar Broadcast
In this application, Broadcaster Lite is used to capture the presentation material and encode it for viewing on the network by standard internet browsers and viewers

Broadcaster Lite for Events with Simultaneous Translation

VGA Broadcaster Lite Simultaneous Translation

In this application two VGA Broadcaster Lite devices are used. The bottom VGA Broadcaster Lite uses the internal video splitter than can daisy chain to a second VGA Broadcaster Lite. The second Broadcaster Lite is located in a sound room where a simultaneous translator applies his audio to the same video stream, thus providing a multi-lingual version of the event in real time. Although this example describes a language translation on the second stream, the audio channel applied could also be a descriptive video soundtrack.

Broadcaster Lite Visual Impairment Assistance

VGA Broadcaster Lite visual impairment assistance

Many event planners are not aware that technology can now expand their audiences and help them comply with equal access requirements. In this application, VGA Broadcaster Lite streams video and audio of the presentation or display contents to audience members with visual impairment. These attendees can view the material to closer to their visual focus, or use local tools on their computers to further amplify the images displayed.

Broadcaster Lite Integration with Central Security Systems

VGA Broadcaster integrated with security system

Broadcaster Lite can be integrated with a central security system without modification to the display sources, nor any changes to the central security system, so long as the system supports one of the video stream formats provided by Broadcaster Lite. In this example, Broadcaster Lite encodes the VGA/DVI display into an H.264 stream. The central security system can capture remote displays, as if they were other H.264 video sources, without modification to the application sources. The remote display is just another H.264 video source being displayed and recorded.

Additionally, some security applications require monitoring and recording of the operators running the security system. In this case Broadcaster Lite can be connected to the central console display, and this video stream can also be provided as an input to the central security recording system.

VGA2WiFi | Broadcasting | Products http://www.epiphan.com/products/broadcasting/vga2wifi/ Epiphan Systems VGA2WiFi™ is an innovative wireless VGA / DVI display or camera source over WiFi solution for the broadcast streaming of any presentation or DVI/VGA signal to an audience wirelessly. Using the common 802.11b/g Wi-Fi wireless standard, users can view the output of a DVI or VGA source on their laptop computers, PDAs, smart phones, or other Wi-Fi enabled device with a compatible browser or viewer.

Key Features

  • Wireless VGA /DVI transmitter for presenters
  • Wirelessly Streams DVI/VGA to MPEG 4, H.264/Adobe Flash, or MJPEG compression to local WiFi router
  • Supports HD video, up to 1920x1200 at 30 frames per second

VGA to WIFI

How it works

The video source or presentation projector is connected to the VGA2WiFi device via a standard DVI or VGA cable. VGA2WiFi streams the encoded video stream to the local LAN's router via WiFi. VGA2WiFi presents a HTTP webserver to the network were viewers can then access the URL to view the live broadcast by launching a web browser/viewer. Wired and wireless viewers then enter the URL address of the broadcast for live streaming of the presentation

VGA2WiFi

VGA2WiFi supports multiple compression and streaming formats, no additional software or codecs need to be installed on the viewer’s computers or mobile devices. As well, since VGA2WiFi is a stand-alone external device, the source device does not need to be modified in any way.

Setup and configuration of the VGA2WiFi is done through an intuitive web interface, which is accessed simply by entering the IP address of the device in your browser, allowing you to send DVI or VGA to WiFi in a matter of seconds.

Features:

  • Works with any source device with a single-link DVI or VGA port, including laptops and projectors
  • Works within a range of 100 meters or 300 feet from WiFi router
  • Viewers access VGA2WiFi broadcast stream URL through a simple browser/viewer, making it compatible with all operating systems and modern mobile devices
