Epiphan's active VGA Splitter GLI™ splits a VGA source into one Ground Loop Isolated VGA port, and a second fault-tolerant pass through VGA output port. Unlike traditional Y-splitter cables and active splitters, this product connects to your existing VGA cable, intercepts the VGA signals, amplifies the VGA signals, splits and generates a second ground loop isolated VGA output port.

Epiphan’s active VGA Splitter GLI has a high bandwidth 1 GHz signal amplifier that taps the incoming VGA source and splits it into two VGA outputs. The two VGA outputs are created without any loss in picture quality, resolution, or power, nor does it create additional loading on VGA cable length.

Advanced users can also create multiple VGA output port complexes by daisy chaining two or more VGA Splitter GLIs together to create various combinations of fault-tolerant and ground loop isolated ports.

This product is ideal for applications in noisy signal environments and multi monitor applications where the quality of the split VGA signals are critical.

Ground Loop Isolator

Epiphan's VGA Splitter GLI has an integrated ground loop isolation circuitry to reduce picture noise in a VGA stream. Noise often occurs due to a ground loop in the power wiring within an event venue, conference room, home, office, or industrial environment caused by differences in the electrical system. Ground Loop Noise is visible when a VGA monitor is connected to a PC or other VGA source via a VGA cable or traditional splitter, whereby an additional ground loop path for electricity flow is created, causing the electrical system to try to balance itself and resulting in noise in the image signals.

When connected, the ground loop isolator works by breaking the ground between the VGA source and output display, eliminating the path for the current from an electrical imbalance to flow and eliminating all VGA noise caused by a ground loop.

VGA Splitter switches to ground loop isolation mode only when one VGA input and one VGA output are present. A VGA terminator must be connected to the VGA output port that is not in use. In other words, VGA Splitter can easily be transformed into a ground loop isolator for any VGA signal but in such a setup, will not support the cloning of a VGA signal.

1GHz Signal Bandwidth

Epiphan's splitter circuitry eliminates noise using a high bandwidth differential amplifier technique. This approach provides high signal quality for frequencies up to 1GHz which means that resolutions up to 2048×2048@85Hz are supported, with no loss in picture quality.

Fault Tolerant Output Port

A fault tolerant output port ensures that even if power to the VGA Splitter is suddenly cut, one VGA output port will still work.

Ground Loop Examples

A venue has a number of PCs and display sources connected to a switch, which is then split with a Y-cable to a projector and a recording system. The display sources may be operating from a battery source, or one more different electrical circuits in the venue. The audio system and video recording systems may also happen to be in different parts of the venue, each powered by a separate electrical circuit - with possibly different ground references. The ground loop(s) between all these devices can create ground loop noise in the system and distort the image quality
Air traffic control rooms have multiple high resolution monitors, systems and servers that draw a lot of power. Recording systems and back up systems are often located on separate power circuits, backup or redundant power sources, each with different grounds, therefore creating ground loops.
Industrial sites with high powered machinery on a plant floor will often have different power sources than control systems and office equipment monitoring the plant operations. This is done by design to avoid inductive loading effects caused from the start/stop of high powered machines, however the machines on the plant floor and the factory control room may therefore float from different grounds - creating ground loops in the monitors

Epiphan's VGA Printer product can be used in courtroom and deposition applications where exhibits can be shown on a courtroom display to the witness, deponent, judge or jury, then printed at the touch of a button and entered into evidence. VGA Printer can also be connected to a document camera with a DVI or VGA output, where the evidence captured by the document camera can printed and processed according to local court rules.

Printing Ultrasound in Colour

Epiphan's VGA Printer can provide a number of important features to ultrasound professionals. VGA Printer is connected to the output of an ultrasound with a DVI or VGA or HDMI output. Instead of using expensive thermal black and white ultrasound printer solutions, at the push of a button, the image currently displayed can be printed to a standard postscript printer - in color - without modifying any software or hardware on existing ultrasound equipment.

VGA PRINTER

Video Printer requires no special software, computer or computer monitor—just a standard USB or network office postscript printer. The Matterhon OpenCast Lecture Capture system Reference Platform shown is built using Epiphan products. VGA2USB LR Visual Impairment Assistance Device

VGA2USB LR can be used as a visual impairment assistance device as shown in the diagram. The person with a visual impairment connects their computer VGA output of the presenter computer, projector or smart white board via a splitter and a copy of the video stream is displayed on their laptop.

A big advantage this approach is that VGA2USB LR does not require any software to be installed on the presenter's computer. Changing presenter's is also a simple wire connection change. In fact, the content source is not restricted to a computer, it can be any equipment with a VGA output source

The visually impaired person can also use magnification tools to further amplify or zoom in on the images as they fit. VGA2USB LR is particularly suited to applications where the content is rich in resolution and has a higher frame rate requirement than simple slides with text. In the case of presentations with more static material and low frame rates, VGA2USB has less functionality, but can be a more cost effective solution.

Epiphan VGADVI Broadcaster™ is a stand-alone appliance for streaming and/or recording video display and camera sources.

VGADVI Broadcaster captures an HD video source such as a computer monitor, RADAR display or ultrasound monitor as well as an SD video source such as a camera feed. VGADVI Broadcaster then streams these inputs as two synchronized time-stamped streams or one picture-in-picture stream. The streams can be viewed remotely in a multitude of ways, including through web browsers, media players, or mobile devices. A recording of the streams can also be made.

VGADVI Broadcaster is easy to setup and use, and works straight out of the box. It does not require the use of a computer or any additional equipment - simply power it on to start recording.

HD + SD Video Audio Capture

VGADVI Broadcaster captures an HD video source (up to 1920x1200) channel from a VGA/DVI/HDMI¹ display or camera, in parallel with an analog S-Video/Composite (PAL, NTSC) SD video source channel and a stereo/mono audio source.

VGADVI Broadcaster encodes the input channels into a choice of standard formats:

DVI2USB Form Factor and Connectors

As a compact external device, DVI2USB is easy to use and to transport. About the size of a small paperback book, it is easily plugged in making it simple to set-up for any individual with basic knowledge of computers.

The product ships complete with all required hardware and connectivity and a power supply. Software development kits are also available for specialized applications.

VGA Capture

In order for the DVI2USB to capture a VGA video source signal, the VGA-to-DVI adapter must be connected to the DVI port of the DVI2USB (included with DVI2USB).

DVI Capture

DVI2USB is capable of capturing any single-link DVI signal (up to 1920x1200). If you require dual-link DVI capture or support for resolutions above 1920x1200, you need DVI2USB DUO.

HDMI Capture

HDMI capture is possible using a HDMI to DVI adapter (purchased separately). The audio stream will not be captured during HDMI capture. Furthermore, HDCP or copy-protected content cannot be captured using DVI2USB.

Display Port and Mini Display Port Capture

Mac users can use an adapter to capture DVI from mini display port, display port and thunderbolt interfaces.

Epiphan Systems' Matterhorn Capture Device™ (MCD) is a capture device for a DVI/VGA video source, an analog video source, and audio designed specifically to interface with the Opencast Matterhorn platform, an open-source platform to support the management of educational audio and video content. It will not function as a stand-alone capture, recording, or streaming solution.

The Matterhorn Capture Device is an easy-to-install out-of-the-box hardware appliance and functions as a fully-featured capture agent and recording device for the Matterhorn platform. Matterhorn Capture Device Features Description

Integrated DVI/VGA support - Epiphan's Matterhorn Capture Device comes packed with an integrated frame grabber on-board. It is able to capture signals from both VGA and DVI sources at resolutions up to 1920x1080 and can achieve capture rates of up to 30 frames per second, meaning that even full motion video and animations that are shown on the presenter's computer are captured, archived, and broadcast in the highest possible quality. Furthermore, unencrypted HDMI video can be captured using a DVI to HDMI adapter.

Audio/Video support - Matterhorn Capture Device has an integrated S-Video input, allowing it to capture analog video at resolutions up to 480i or 640x480 at up to 30 frames per second. Furthermore, a line-in for audio means that the presenter's microphone or audio can be captured as well. Adapters that convert analog video signals into a S-Video signal can also be used in order to capture composite video.

Stand-alone Integrated Capture Appliance - As part of the Opencast lecture capture system, Matterhorn Capture Device works as a stand-alone appliance, sending data over the Ethernet interface to the Matterhorn video capture server. No additional capture agent or hardware is required as the device works out-of-the-box. The device is powered by Power over Ethernet, meaning that no separate power supplies are required, thus reducing clutter and making it easy to install.

Matterhorn Capture Device is a fully-featured low-cost lecture recording appliance that removes the need for a dedicated computer capture agent with splitter, frame grabber, video grabber, and power supplies on the presenters' side, reducing connectors, space and power consumption, maintenance, spares and backups, thus saving money, simplifying installation and increasing reliability with fewer devices in the classroom.

File Management Dashboard

Lecture Recorder x2 has a web-based file manager to view recorded files after lecture streaming as shown below. Each file has a name and start time, end time and duration fields. Epiphan VGADVI Recorder™ is a stand-alone appliance for recording and/or streaming video display and camera sources.

VGADVI Recorder captures an HD video source such as a computer monitor, RADAR display or ultrasound monitor as well as an SD video source such as a camera feed. The screen capture recorder then records these inputs as two synchronized time-stamped streams or one picture-in-picture stream. After display recording the recorded content can also be streamed live to remote users' browsers or media players.

VGADVI Recorder is easy to setup and use, and works straight out of the box. This display recorder does not require the use of a computer or any additional equipment. Simply power it on to start recording.

HD + SD Video Audio Capture

VGADVI Recorder captures an HD video source (up to 1920x1200) channel from a VGA/DVI/HDMI¹ display or camera, in parallel with an analog S-Video/Composite (PAL, NTSC) SD video source channel and a stereo/mono audio source.

VGADVI Recorder encodes the input channels into a choice of standard formats:

Stream

Apart from display recording VGADVI Recorder streams the input channels as a single stream or two independent streams up to 30 FPS. Standard browsers and media players view the stream(s) via a URL over choice of:

HTTP, RTP over RTSP, UDP, HTTP

Administrators can custom brand the output stream layout, picture with picture arrangement, time stamping, copyright, and other branding using the display recorder interface.

Record to Publish and Replay

VGADVI Recorder is able to record video from screen and save the input channel streams to its 32GB internal storage, network storage, internal FTP server, external FTP site and/or local USB storage key. Media files from the display recorder can be viewed by standard media players, browsers and processed with standard multi media editing tools.

VGADVI Recorder File Storage Features

	Automated Network Storage VGADVI Recorder can be configured to automatically copy display recording to a network storage location using a choice of FTP, CIFS or RSYNC. This feature facilitates integration of the screen capture recorder with content management and publication systems.
	Automatic Local USB Storage Key Copy VGADVI Recorder will automatically record video from screen and copy the most recent recordings to a USB Storage Key. This is a great feature if you want to instantly provide a copy of the presentation to the presenter without requiring network connectivity.
	Built in FTP server VGADVI Recorder has a built in FTP server for integration with content management systems that simply need to connect via FTP to ingest the recorded content

File Management Dashboard

This display recorder has a web-based file manager to view recorded files as shown below. Each file has a name and start time, end time and duration fields. Files are grouped by date and segmented by contiguous recording timelines. You can change file names, upload one, multiple or all files, delete one, multiple of all files using the interface of the screen capture recorder.

VGA Grid Product Description

VGA Grid™ allows you to create one or more channels that combine signals from multiple DVI, VGA or HDMI, composite, s-video and audio sources and relay them to one or more output channels to display, stream, record in a real time. No matter where the sources are located, in the same room or remote, live stream from the displays, cameras, medical imaging equipment or other video sources can be recorded, time-stamped and displayed onto one or more output streams.

VGA Grid consists of a 4U rackmount server with hardware for video/audio capture, Gigabit Ethernet and proprietary firmware. The broadcast rate varies between 640x480 and 2048x2048 with a maximum color depth of 24 bits. Please refer to the customization page to define the video capture inputs, resolutions and color depth required for your application. The captured sources can be broadcasted in a variety of different formats, including ASF, RTSP, Flash video, Motion JPEG. Furthermore, VGA Grid supports Adobe Flash technology and it is possible to view broadcasting directly from the browser.

How does VGA Grid Work?

Received VGA signals are captured by the internal cards and optional external interfaces for additional remote video signal inputs. Through a user-friendly and secure web interface you can set the display mode of the captured signals, create various channels, customize channels to display simultaneously a number of selected sources with required resolution, or zoom in on a single source if necessary. They can also be concurrently broadcast/streamed in real time to a multitude of devices, such as laptops, computers, video walls, netbooks, PDAs, and iPhones. Timestamping of the various video signals is also available.

System Configuration - Standard and Customer Configurations Grid Available?

Epiphan Systems offers two off-the-shelf VGA Grid models: 4-source VGA Grid and 6-source VGA Grid. They provide interfaces to capture 4 or 6 VGA/DVI sources respectively. These two default configurations are ideal for acquiring and broadcasting video signals in case Grid is collocated with the VGA sources.

Don’t Want to Be Limited to the Number of Input Sources? VGA Grid Can Be Customized to Your Budget and Application

Conceivably, it is possible you do not want to be limited to only 4 or 6 VGA sources and need some advanced functionality such as s-video and composite sources? Then we can build a Custom VGA Grid solution that best meets your requirements whatever they may be. This purpose-oriented model is assembled upon request and will address interests of a particular customer.

Custom VGA Grid allows you to specify the number of additional video signal inputs and types. Each of the sources should be connected to an external expansion frame grabber, e.g. VGA to Ethernet. The captured signal is transferred then over Ethernet to the VGA Grid’s Concentrator. Please refer to the customization page to specify how many sources you have, and what your requirements for image resolution and frame rate are.

Recording? It’s that easy!

VGA Grid also allows you to acquire video from several sources, create a channel coalescing them, and then save and record this channel’s video in real time as a single video stream video file. We offer a 2TB Hard Disk Drive in the standard VGA Grid configuration, but this can be extended upon request by adding one or more 2TB Hard Disk Drives to the configuration. This functionality will ensure that continuous live video recording lasts for months and even more.

DVI Broadcaster DL™ is an integrated hardware appliance for streaming and/or recording the DVI or DVI-Dual Link (DVI-DL) monitor output in high speed and high precision military, air traffic control, medical and industrial applications.

DVI Broadcaster DL is a compact external device that captures DVI or HDMI video signals in resolutions up to 2048x2048 or 2560x1600 for widescreen applications. DVI Broadcaster DL then streams the captured content in formats which can be viewed with standard internet browsers and media players. The streaming content can also be recorded to internal storage and network storage.

High Resolution Video Capture

DVI Broadaster DL captures video from DVI, DVI-Dual link or HDMI sources at up to 2048x2048 resolution without a loss in picture quality and syncs them with a stereo/mono audio source.

Epiphan’s Mediphan technology named a «potentially life-saving innovation» by the Space Foundation

Ottawa, Canada. April 11, 2013 — Mediphan, a division of Epiphan Systems Inc, an innovator in professional audio-video capture and streaming technologies, has been inducted into the Space Foundation’s Space Technology Hall of Fame. The Space Technology Hall of Fame recognizes technologies that improve life on Earth but were originally developed for or dramatically improved by space applications. The induction was held on April 11, 2013 during the 29 th National Space Symposium in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

Mediphan was created by Epiphan Systems as a special unit to develop audio video capture, streaming, recording, and replay products and technologies for telemedicine and remote guidance applications. Mediphan’s products, DistanceDoc and MedRecorder, allow doctors to remotely view and record remote medical displays for diagnosis and medical training purposes.

Initially, Mediphan screen capture, streaming, and recording technology was developed and used to remotely train astronauts on the use of ultrasound equipment. VGADVI Broadcaster Pro

VGADVI Broadcaster Pro is a professional audio/video source streaming hardware product that captures, synchronizes, overlays and broadcasts video and audio. It can stream up to four synchronized VGA, DVI, HDMI, composite, and s-video channels with RCA or XLR audio source live to remote audiences and supports resolutions up to 2048×2048, with a minimum 30fps capture rate of HD video. It also supports streaming to set-top-boxes (STBs) and content delivery networks (CDNs).

VGADVI Recorder

VGADVI Recorder is a stand-alone appliance for recording and/or streaming video display and camera sources. It supports the capture of 1920×1200 VGA/DVI/HDMI video, analog video and 3.5mm line-in audio capture. 1080p HD video is captured at 30fps in MPEG4, H.264 or MJPEG compression. VGADVI Recorder then records the input channel streams to internal storage, network storage, an internal FTP server, an external FTP site and/or a local USB storage key.

KeyLogger

January 15, 2013, Ottawa, Canada – Epiphan Systems Inc., an innovator in professional audio-visual capture, record, broadcast streaming and replay hardware products has introduced a new member to its family of external frame grabbers, the DVI2USB 3.0™. This new product is Epiphan’s most versatile and highest performance external grabber ever.

DVI2USB 3.0 captures video signals from VGA, HDMI, and DVI sources and supports either USB 3.0 or USB 2.0 connectivity to a host computer. All of this flexibility is packed into in a sleek and robust aluminum case that fits in the palm of your hand.

DVI2USB 3.0 takes advantage of the increased throughput of USB 3.0 SuperSpeed to deliver outstanding performance. It captures full HD video signals uncompressed at 30 frames per second while maintaining true 24-bit colour to preserve the quality and integrity of the original source signal. Because it does not implement compression to achieve the 30 fps throughput this performance is independent of video content no matter how dynamic.

DVI2USB 3.0 draws its power from the host computer USB 3.0 link so that no external power source is required. It is easily connected in a matter of seconds with one cable to the host computer and another to the video source.

DVI2USB 3.0 comes complete with Epiphan Capture software and drivers for Windows, MAC and Linux systems. This software is compatible with DirectShow, QuickTime, and V4L (Video for Linux) for integration with 3rd party imaging software.
