National Research Council Canada Improves Online Collaboration with VGA2WEB

As a theoretical physicist with the Steacie Institute for Molecular Sciences at the National Research Council Canada (NRC), Dr. Misha Ivanov deals with complex scientific problems. Often, his collaborators are located overseas, making it difficult for Ivanov to discuss work in person with his peers.

“The ability to see details of specific calculations, and to sketch and discuss formulas, algorithms and approximations is essential in my work.” explains Ivanov. “Traditionally, these discussions are held in front of a whiteboard but with VGA2WEB Pro, for the first time in my life, I can work efficiently with overseas colleagues without any regard for the distance between us.”

Bringing scientists together over the web

To aid online collaboration, the NRC purchased two VGA2WEB Pro units - one for Ivanov and one for his collaborators in the UK. “Today, I can no longer imagine working without VGA2WEB,” says Ivanov. “What would have been virtually unimaginable before - explaining formulas and working through the derivation together on the phone -has now become almost trivial. With an interactive screen in front of us, we can work just as efficiently as if we were in one room.”

"I absolutely love this tool, as well as the fact that it is so easy to use,” Ivanov notes. “I am delighted to recommend it to my colleagues and all other scientists.”
